Biography:
Frank Pacal was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1878. He emigrated to the United States
with his parents in 1883 from Bohemia and settled in Lincoln, Nebraska. He enlisted in
Company D, First Nebraska Regiment, U.S. Volunteers. Assigned to the Eighth Army, Company D;
participated in the Philippine Campaign during the Spanish-American War. Pacal's service
lead to a promotion to Corporal in May of 1898 and to Sergeant in 1899. After returning from
the war, Pacal married Betty Denman and worked at Magee's Department Store in Lincoln. He
later moved his family to Wymore, Nebraska, where he established his own men's clothing
store. In 1935 he sold the business and retired to Texas.
Scope and Content:
The Pacal records relate to his military service. The items relate to the Spanish-American
War Campaign literature, Nebraska volunteers, Lincoln business and civic affiars, Far East
mementos, and the Veteran Association. The collection includes photographs and artifacts,
such as medals, pins, and military buttons.
