Biography:
William Tecumseh Sherman served as general in the United States Army, against the
Confederacy, during the Civil War. He took over for Ulysses S. Grant in 1864 and led
marches through the Carolinas and Georgia. He became commanding general of the U.S.
Army at the end of the war and fought several campaigns against American Indians. He
served in the military until 1883. Sherman died in 1891.
Scope and Content:
Sherman writes a short note on letterhead from the "Headquarters Army of the United States." He asks that Architect Alexander
Cameron, and his partner, stop by his office to discuss a job relating to work from
the previous fall.
