History:
The Komensky Club started at the University of Nebraska as an organization for students
with Czech heritage. The club took its name to honor John Amos Comenius, a 17th century
Czech educator. It is among the first organization of Czech students in the United States.
In November 1903, 12 Czech students at Iowa State University met and organized the first
Komensky Club.
Scope and Content:
The records include Náš Svĕt, the newsletter
for the local chapter in Lincoln, Nebraska. The newletter for the national organization, the
Komenský magazine, is written in Czech. The magazine,
first published in Lincoln, later published in Omaha, Nebraska, served as the official organ
of the Federation of Komenský Educational Clubs.
